Shakti Rising - Honoring our Stories explores the cultural, political, and spiritual aspects surrounding the life cycles of two women, represented by Mother Earth. This powerful dance story is a unique collaboration between Indian and Indigenous dance and music.

Ancestral knowledge, profound life experiences, and issues related to marginalized and Indigenous communities, are brought to light through five powerful dance pieces. This intercultural and multilingual artistic performance follows the courageous journey of two women, represented by the creation energies of Shakti and Sky Woman.

This is a deep collaborative journey that depicts with boldness and power, the stories of feminine strength and wisdom. Dancing through periods of joy, challenges, hardships, and triumph; a path of solidarity, hope, and love is created. We invite the audience to join us on this heartfelt journey of Honoring our stories.

Shakti Rising - Honoring our Stories is created and directed by Indian dancer Amrita Choudhury and produced by Amrita Dance Creations.

This performance is created by Indian dance artist Amrita Choudhury and is in collaboration with Indigenous artist Barbara Diabo. Other artists performing are musicians Pedro Diaz, Christophe Cinq, Saulo Olmedo Evans and Ravi Shankar Dwivedi-Leng.

ABOUT AMRITA DANCE CREATIONS

Amrita Dance Creations offers intercultural, multi-lingual, and cross-cultural productions in collaboration with multiple disciplines. Committed to giving voice to the voiceless and highlighting issues of marginalized communities through the medium of dance, we tell stories from the heart and express emotions through dance. Specializing in Indian classical, folk, and Indian modern dance for more than 30 years, Amrita Choudhury offers a dynamic space to practice, learn, and perform for the community at large.

At the heart of these productions are the philosophies of interconnectedness, interdependence, and a sense of solidarity with all that surrounds us. Through collaborating with various cultures and artistic disciplines, we have produced shows such as "Sophia's Resurrection", "The Bridges of Hope", "The Light of Love", and now "Shakti Rising: Honoring Our Stories".

As guests on this land, we are always striving to honor and support this reality through collaborations and performances. We aim to create and present what it truly means to live in this interconnected world with respect, integrity, and love for one another. Amrita has also brought to the stage Indian Indigenous dance and music cultures (classical, folk and tribal), by highlighting their important contribution to the global artistic world.

Amrita Dance Creations continues to bring inspiring dance stories globally with an emphasis on cultural diversity, ancestral knowledge, and building communities.
